HOW TO INCREASE Innovation - Masterclass Overview
The long term success of any organisation is largely dependent on its ability to continually adapt and respond to the constantly changing world in which we exist.
Those organisations that cultivate a culture of continuous transformation enabled and accelerated by appropriate governance, process and technology, are best placed to leverage change for competitive advantage and they are able to respond in a proactive manner to the impacts and implications that current and future changes will have on their staff, their business models, their industry ecosystem, consumer behaviours and society in general.
Responsive organisations such as these have the ability to shape the future, as opposed to simply reacting to it.
This innovation masterclass series is intended for anyone with a passion for increasing innovation within their own team or across their entire organisation and ecosystem.
It will equip you and your team with tools and techniques to build the future and help you on your innovation journey.
Participants will gain fresh insights as to HOW innovation works, along with a new set of skills which they can immediately apply in order to begin shaping the future.
Key takeaways include:-
- An understanding of how innovation really works in the real world
- Where and how to source ideas and inspiration for your innovation initiatives
- A framework for identifying and acting upon signals and trends
- An increased ability and willingness to embrace change and understand the impact and implications it will have on every aspect of our lives, organisations and the ecosystems we operate in
- Simple and powerful frameworks to envision multiple future strategies, products and service improvements to kickstart your innovation initiatives
- Practical tools and techniques to focus activities and drive actionable outcomes
The full day masterclass typically consists of the four core modules outlined below:-
1) The Innovation Ecosystem
Many organisation point to an “Innovation Funnel” when asked about their current innovation activities. But there is far more to innovation than a funnel – it’s broad and messy and requires a blend of both Art and Science.
This colourful and energetic session brings to life how innovation really works in the real world and is littered with anecdotes from Andrew’s experience over 35 years of leading and participating in innovation initiatives.
2) Horizon Scanning
Where do you look for innovation inspiration? Are you continuously scanning the horizon for signals and trends that will shape the future of your role, company, industry and even society itself? When you find items of interest, what do you do with them?
In this two part, hands-on session, participants are guided through a range of horizon scanning sources which they then apply using Andrew’s Award Winning TIPS workbook to identify future opportunities and threats.
3) Future Thinking
Have you ever wondered how a Futurist envisions the multiple possible paths the future might take from this point forward?
Andrew will share a simple, powerful technique that is easily learned and applied during this session that will help you see the world around you in a different light forever after – enabling you to expand (explode) your ideas into winning strategies, new products and services to shape the future for all of us.
This is a hands-on session where participants work alone for a short period after being introduced to the technique and then the results are shared with the rest of the group.
4) The Innovation Radar
Have you ever been asked “what’s on your radar?”
In this session, we discuss how to classify your ideas and concepts in order to bring focus to your innovation activities – helping you to decide what to ignore (and why) and helping to prioritise and facilitate conversations around what to look for and what to do next.
The four modules above contain all the essential elements needed to increase innovation across your organisation. Modules 3 and 4 can optionally be swapped out for one or both of the following alternative modules depending on your needs. Or you could consider expanding the Masterclass to a multi-day agenda to really supercharge your innovation initiatives!
How often have you been invited into a room to “brainstorm ideas” where you are simply given a pile of post-it-notes and expected to get on with it?
This session introduces 3 different ideation techniques to approach problems, inspire creative thinking and identify new opportunities through simple, structured frameworks.
EVERYONE can THINK and BE more innovative in everything they do if they are given the right stimulation!
Overcoming Barriers and Obstacles
Anyone that has ever been engaged in any form of innovation, change or transformation initiative, will be aware that the path is full of obstacles and barriers to overcome. These are often in the form of people, processes, misconceptions, misunderstandings, mis-management and a whole lot more which I call “Monsters and Myths”. The success of your innovation attempts will often be highly dependent on your ability to wield the “Magic” required to conquer these!
